Girl Scout Day Camp: Day 1 in Review

Leah had a great time on Monday at her first day of girl scout day camp! I'm so proud of her! Here is an update from one of the group leaders (AKA Aunt Shelf):

"We hope your daughters shared with you lots of stories of the fun they had today at day camp! Below are a few things to keep in mind for Briar Patch girls about tomorrow's schedule and for the rest of the week:

Briar Patch girls will stop at the camp store tomorrow and may buy something if they wish. Many items are under $5, so feel free to send a few dollars with your daughter tomorrow if you are allowing her to buy something." (Leah did have a few dollars with her! She showed me the little purple furry stuffed animal she purchased. She was very excited!)

"We made a delicious trail-mix ("GORP") today with each girls' snack contribution. Please continue to bring a snack bag to camp each day this week." (So the first day I packed a huge bag of pretzels for Leah to share. Yesterday I sent her with a pack of saltines. Leah said those were too big. Today I sent her with a bag of golden grahams cereal. I think I'm going to have to go to the store for Thursday & Friday!)

"We had no problems with dehydration among our girls today, and it sure was a very hot day! Just a tip to continue this: We recommend having your daughters drink water in the evening and also right after waking up in the morning. Also, sending your daughter with a filled water bottle is all the water you need to bring from home. We have good-tasting Hilliard water on site to refill the girls' bottles as often as they want.

Some parents have asked what the "mess kit" is that is needed for Thursday evening's cookout. A "mess kit" is essentially the dishware and utensils needed in order to eat the food that we make. It should include a plate (a plastic, kids' plate would be fine), plastic fork and spoon and a mesh bag to hold all of them; this way, the girls' can easily rinse the dish and utensils by running them through water in the mesh bag and can hang them up to dry.

Photos were taken today of the girls as they did various, fun activities. Look for them in an upcoming email and later in the week!"

Leah seems to be enjoying every single minute of day camp! I'm so glad we signed her up!
