Leah brought home info today on the annual walk-a-thon that the parent teacher organization holds every year at her elementary school. On Friday, 10/14 (first thing in the morning), all of the students will gather on the playground to start their 1-1/4 mile walk!! This annual event helps the school's PTO raise money for various programs that are paid for by the PTO throughout the school year. But the kids also get in their exercise & have fun with their classmates!
Some of the programs & items that are paid for with these donations include class field trips, author visits, enrichment day, playground equipment, outdoor classroom, staff appreciation, & much more!
We're starting Leah out with a $5 donation to get her to her goal of $50. Each student is asked to collect flat rate pledges from family & friends. Donations can be made in cash or check (payable to OCPTO) & are tax deductible! We have the pledge receipts here at home! As a treat & thank you to all of the kids, one of the local radio stations (Sunny 95) will host an ice cream treat party at the conclusion of the walk. Bonus!
In addition to helping out the PTO, Leah will also be eligible to win 1 of several prizes after she turns in her pledge sheet. The person who raises the most will win a night out with 4 of their friends & 1 adult to an all-expense paid dinner & movie. The best part of this prize is that the kids will be picked up by a limo! Even if Leah doesn't collect the most money in the school, she could still try to collect the most in her grade! If so, she'll win a $25 gift card to the store of her choice. OK, maybe she won't be the highest-earning 1st grader, but she could still get an entry ticket into the raffle if she collects at least $50 in pledges! And for every $25 over that initial $50 in pledges, she'll earn another raffle ticket for a prize from Fleet Feet Sports.
We'll also be helping Leah here at home to decorate her own water bottle for the walk! Looks like there will be some great prizes handed out as the kids show off their decorated water bottles during the walk!
